Custom travel to Ivory Coast

Ivory Coast is one of West Africa's most dynamic destinations, 6-8 hours' flight from Paris, French-speaking and easy to access with its CFA currency fixed to the euro. The world's leading cocoa producer with 40% of production, it was the 'Ivorian miracle' under Houphouët-Boigny, a period of strong economic growth from the 1960s to the 1980s that shaped its image as a regional locomotive. The country counts around sixty ethnic groups, including the Baoulé, Bété, Senufo and Dan, and a blended cultural identity where animist traditions, Islam and Christianity intersect. Abidjan, 6 million inhabitants, is nicknamed 'Africa's Manhattan' for its skyscrapers and 'Little Paris' for its nightlife; its Félix Houphouët-Boigny international airport is the country's main gateway. Flagship sites: Yamoussoukro and its Basilica of Our Lady of Peace, the world's largest church, Grand-Bassam, a UNESCO-listed colonial town, Taï National Park and its wild chimpanzees, the Assinie beaches and Man, heart of Dan culture. Allow 7 to 10 days to discover modern West Africa, between urban energy, colonial heritage and preserved nature.

When to go

November-March is the best period (dry season, bearable temperatures 24-32 °C, reduced humidity). Avoid April-October (rainy season, harmattan in December-February, dry dusty Sahel wind but without rain, cooler morning temperatures). The coastal zone around Abidjan and Grand-Bassam stays more humid year-round than the inland areas, while the Man region, at altitude, enjoys cooler temperatures, pleasant for hiking. Pack light clothing but also a light windbreaker for evenings, especially in December-February when the harmattan can bring cooler early mornings.

  • Cool dry season (ideal) (December – February), All sites accessible, festivals
  • Hot dry season (March), Assinie beaches, practicable Taï
  • Long rainy season (April – July), Lush forest (but difficult Taï)
  • Short dry season / rains (August – November), ABISSA Festival Grand-Bassam (October)
