Custom travel to Estonia

Estonia (45,339 km², 1.3 million inhabitants) is one of the three Baltic States, independent from the USSR since August 20, 1991. An EU and Schengen member since 2004, a eurozone member since 2011 and a NATO member since 2004, it has become the world's most digitalized country, nicknamed « e-Estonia »: 99% of public services are available online, internet voting has existed since 2005, and e-Residency (launched 2014) lets 100,000 foreigners manage an Estonian company entirely from abroad. Skype was born in Tallinn in 2003. Tallinn (UNESCO 1997, 440,000 inhabitants) houses one of Northern Europe's best-preserved medieval old towns: 4 km of intact 13th-16th-c. ramparts, 25 medieval towers, the 1404 Gothic Town Hall (the only one in Northern Europe still original) and the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. Five centuries of Germanic domination (1346-1860) explain its Germanic-Scandinavian architecture. 70 km east, Lahemaa National Park — the oldest in the former USSR — lines up boreal forests, peat bogs and Baltic-German manors (Vihula, Palmse, Sagadi). To the south, Tartu, the cultural capital, hosts the oldest university in the Baltic States (1632). To the west, the Saaremaa archipelago keeps its 14th-c. bishop's castle. With its Baltic panoramas, saunas, New Nordic cuisine and a cost of living 40% below France's, Estonia is one of Europe's most accessible destinations, 2h30 from Paris by air.
