Custom travel to Barbados

Barbados is one of the Caribbean's most exclusive destinations: a small 432-km² island, about 10 h from Paris (direct flights in high season). Independent from the UK since 1966, it became a republic on 30 November 2021 while keeping the English language and culture. As the easternmost Caribbean island, alone in the Atlantic, it enjoys a climate tempered by constant trade winds and two starkly contrasting coasts: the Platinum Coast to the west, calm and lined with palaces (Sandy Lane, Coral Reef Club, Cobblers Cove; Rihanna was born here in 1988); and the wilder Atlantic east coast, with Bathsheba's Soup Bowl, one of the region's most legendary surf spots. Bridgetown, the UNESCO-listed capital (2011), is home to its 1697 historic garrison and to the Western Hemisphere's oldest parliament after Westminster. It is also the birthplace of rum (Mount Gay, in operation since 1703, the world's oldest distillery) and the stage for the Crop Over Festival in July–August. Allow seven to ten days to combine both coasts — a family-friendly, Anglo-Caribbean destination for those who love beaches, golf, and a tropical British art of living.

Highlights

  • UNESCO Bridgetown (1697, 1639 parliament)
  • West coast Platinum Coast (Sandy Lane, 5★ palaces)
  • Soup Bowl Bathsheba (world-top surf)
  • Mount Gay 1703 (world's oldest rum distillery)
  • Crop Over festival (July-August, Afro-Caribbean calypso)
  • Harrison's Cave (limestone cave underground river)
